Quick and dirty install video here
We are offering an upgraded heat dissipation solution for the Begode MTEN5 electric unicycle. This includes an enhanced heat sink designed for users experiencing thermal throttling or consistent overheating during high-load scenarios.
Instructions:
-
Remove the Existing Lid:
- Start by carefully removing the lid of your MTEN5. To access the lid properly, you may also need to remove the trolley handle and the headlight.
- We have yet to complete this process, but we will provide an update shortly, possibly with a video tutorial to guide you through it.
-
Set the Thermal Pad:
- Place the provided thermal pad as indicated in the printed instructions. Ensure it is correctly aligned with the 6 MOSFETs.
-
Reinstall the New Lid:
- Once the thermal pad is in place, install the new modified plastic battery/board cover. This cover includes the small aluminum heat sink attached to the top.
-
Secure the New Lid:
- Make sure the new cover is securely fastened and all components are aligned.
Please Note: Begode has sent a limited supply of these modified covers, so only customers with an active warranty case are eligible to receive one. They sent us enough for half of our fist batch order.
Thermal monitoring can be done via the Begode app, which reports in Celsius. On a standard day with ambient temperatures around 22°C (72°F), the internal components (mainboard/motor drive board) can safely operate up to 80°C (175°F) before any risk of thermal degradation occurs. However, as a best practice, we recommend keeping the internal temperatures below 50°C.
When the system approaches thermal thresholds, a built-in auditory warning (beeper) will activate, prompting you to reduce the load. This is typically triggered during sustained high-performance operations, such as climbing steep inclines for more than one minute at near-maximum power output. The unit is programmed with thermal management to prevent overheating and, in extreme cases, will initiate a lean-back safety feature to reduce speed and prevent thermal cutoff. However, it will not abruptly shut down solely due to temperature.
If you’ve monitored the temperature and noticed frequent beeping or temperatures exceeding 50°C, we recommend installing the upgraded heat sink.
If you’ve used your EUC during peak thermal conditions, such as a hot summer day, without triggering the thermal alerts, the upgrade is likely unnecessary for your usage profile.
