Begode Master Motherboard Guide (Updated January 2025)
Understanding the Begode Master Motherboard Revisions
When the Begode Master electric unicycle was first released in 2021, there was little indication that multiple motherboard revisions would follow. Since then, at least six different motherboard versions and numerous screen configurations have been introduced. Early versions of the motherboard used long bolts, spacers, and screens that had to be screwed down. However, the latest revision, the Master 4 Motherboard, eliminates these cumbersome mounting requirements, offering a more streamlined and efficient design.
As of January 2025, there are now only three versions of the Begode Master motherboard:
Legacy Bolt Pattern (Two Styles)
-
Same component layout as the earlier versions but comes in two styles:
- Standard Version 2: Designed for newer Masters but does not fit the earliest models without modification. This is the most compact version and was made from 2023 to 2024.
- Version 2 Legacy Bolt Pattern: Features an extended bottom layer when viewed from front to back and an offset mounting hole in the top-right corner, allowing compatibility with Version 1 models.
- This version can be adapted to different models if a user is willing to drill and tap holes. However, due to the cooling fins on the bottom, it is easy to jam and snap your tap, so ordering the correct version is strongly recommended. At the end of the day, the board just needs to be secured properly so the gyro can function and heat can transfer to the aluminum chassis.
Master 4 Motherboard (2024-Present)
- Designed exclusively for the Master 4 electric unicycle (produced in 2024 and continuing into 2025).
- Taller when viewed from front to back.
- Eliminates the need for long bolts and spacers to hold the screen.
- Features circuit board header connectors that allow the screen to attach without screws.
Compatibility and Installation Notes
- If you are looking to replace or upgrade your motherboard, be sure to identify which bolt pattern your current model has. Please refer to the provided pictures for measurements if needed.
- Drilling/tapping new mounting holes can allow for cross-compatibility, but this requires skill and should only be attempted by experienced users. Be cautious—tapping into the fins at the bottom of the chassis can lead to broken taps.
- The Master 4 motherboard is NOT backward compatible without major modifications due to its new mounting and screen connection system, unless drilled and tapped (not recommended).
